Babylist Health is seeking an Insurance Billing Specialist to own the complete billing cycle for durable medical equipment (DME) claims. You will verify insurance eligibility, submit clean claims, manage denials and appeals, chase timely reimbursement, and resolve aged accounts. The role reports to the Senior Billing Specialist Supervisor and works cross-functionally to ensure billing accuracy, compliance, and a patient-centered experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Verify eligibility and run benefit investigations through payer portals and direct outreach
- Submit, track, and follow up on claims to accelerate reimbursement and reduce denials
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) end-to-end, determining whether to rebill, appeal, escalate, or close each account
- Work aged accounts to identify payment blockers and drive balances to resolution
- Draft and submit well-documented appeals on denied claims
- Communicate clearly with patients about benefits and billing questions
- Partner with internal teams to improve workflows, strengthen compliance, and enhance patient experience
- Leverage AI-enabled tools to improve billing and reimbursement processes while maintaining accuracy and compliance
This is a fully remote role open across the US with flexibility to support PST/CST working hours. The work is detail-oriented and high-stakes—accurate billing directly enables families to receive essential equipment without delays or unexpected costs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3 years of professional insurance billing and eligibility experience with direct responsibility for billing outcomes
- Hands-on DME billing experience (essential; must have been directly responsible for billing outcomes, not adjacent to them)
- Proficiency reading EOBs and determining next steps: identifying coverage, payments, denials, adjustments, and patient responsibility
- Fluency in medical coding and compliance: CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, HIPAA, CMS, ERISA, and ACA standards
- Hands-on experience with Brightree and NikoHealth billing systems; familiarity with Epic, Kareo, or AdvancedMD is a plus
- Track record of improving collections and reducing outstanding balances
- Clear, empathetic communication skills; ability to explain denials and patient responsibility without jargon
- Detail-oriented and organized; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy
- Comfort using AI tools in daily work; demonstrated ability to leverage AI to move faster and improve output
