depthfirst is building AI-powered security intelligence to detect and remediate critical software vulnerabilities, including zero-day exploits across customer codebases and open-source software. The founding team includes technical leaders from DeepMind, Databricks, Square, and Faire with deep expertise in data, infrastructure, security, and LLMs.
You will own the design, development, and operation of the cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure powering depthfirst's platform. This role combines deep infrastructure expertise with hands-on software engineering across the full stack: from architecture and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and operating cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters supporting production systems and engineering teams
- Designing and developing production sandbox management and orchestration services, including APIs and distributed coordination for allocation, isolation, health monitoring, failure recovery, and resource lifecycle management
- Improving workload scheduling, autoscaling, and capacity management to support growing and variable demand
- Strengthening infrastructure security through workload isolation, access controls, network policies, and secure configuration
- Optimizing performance and cost efficiency by reducing startup latency, increasing resource utilization, and addressing system bottlenecks
- Building observability and operational tooling to help engineers understand system behavior and resolve problems quickly
- Debugging production issues across service code, Kubernetes, Linux, networking, and cloud infrastructure, then implementing durable fixes
- Improving infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and upgrade processes to ensure changes are repeatable and reliable
You will shape how depthfirst scales its platform while maintaining reliability, security, and operational simplicity.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required):
- Experience building and operating cloud infrastructure and production systems in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or similar role
- Strong hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, including workload scheduling, networking, resource management, scaling, and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with different deployment architectures/concepts such as SaaS, Bring-Your-Own-Cloud, air-gapped environments
- Strong software engineering skills in Go or similar language, with experience designing, building, and maintaining production services
- Experience developing distributed systems, including handling concurrency, retries, partial failures, and resource lifecycle management
- Solid understanding of Linux, containers, networking, and cloud security fundamentals
- Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and production observability
- Ability to reason about tradeoffs between reliability, security, performance, cost, and operational complexity
- Ownership mindset from design and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation
- Strong communication skills and ability to work through ambiguous problems with other engineers
- Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deep experience with AWS and EKS, Helm, and Terraform or Pulumi
- Experience building infrastructure control planes, Kubernetes controllers, operators, or workload orchestration systems
- Experience with sandboxing, virtualization, or secure execution environments
- Experience supporting workloads with high concurrency or rapidly changing compute demand
- Experience building infrastructure for AI platforms, developer tools, or security products
