Substack is seeking an Implementation Lead to build and scale the Brand Partnerships sponsorships business from the ground up. This is a founding role on a small team focused on creating the operational backbone that enables brands and agencies to run campaigns at scale on Substack's creator marketplace.
You will serve as the first-line solutions lead for brands and agencies, owning the end-to-end campaign lifecycle: trafficking, QA, launch, delivery monitoring, and wrap-up. You'll implement scalable systems and processes including order management, campaign workflows, reporting, and billing integrations. A key responsibility is executing and maintaining integrations that brands expect, such as tracking pixels, third-party measurement vendors, and verification tools.
You'll work across functions as a translator between brand ad ops teams and Substack's solutions engineers and product teams. When technical feasibility questions arise on sales calls, you'll scope and answer them on the spot. You'll also build an AI-first outbound engine to drive demand and onboarding into the system, troubleshoot issues mid-flight, and write playbooks and documentation that enable the team to move faster.
The role requires balancing pragmatism with scalability: knowing when to build real tooling versus running ad-hoc operations until volume justifies investment. You'll partner with design and engineering to prioritize what deserves engineering resources.
Required: 10+ years in ad operations, solutions engineering, or technical account management at a platform, publisher, or ad tech company. Hands-on experience with campaign trafficking, tag management, and third-party measurement/verification. Strong data fluency (spreadsheet mastery minimum; SQL and scripting advantageous). Experience sitting in on sales calls to answer technical questions and scope feasibility. Ability to debug tracking discrepancies with agencies and spec internal tools with engineers. An operator's instinct for building scalable processes without over-engineering.
Plus: familiarity with how creator sponsorships are sold, delivered, and measured; experience with APIs, workflow automation, or light scripting (Python, JavaScript).
