You will join the People team as an HR Advisor, reporting to the Ops People Lead. This role is centered on employee relations casework across HIVED's operational sites, with a focus on ensuring fair and consistent HR practices across the business. You will be the trusted advisor when complex people issues arise—walking into depots, reading situations, and coaching managers through disciplinary, grievance, and performance matters.
Key responsibilities include:
**Employee Relations:** Act as the first point of contact for operational employees on people matters. Provide HR advice and support to managers across operational sites on employee relations, absence, probation, and performance issues. Independently manage disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, and performance cases end-to-end, including investigations, formal meetings, outcomes, and appeals. Apply ACAS Code of Practice and current employment law, flagging risks early.
**HR Administration:** Maintain accurate HR records and ensure HR processes run smoothly. Handle day-to-day HR queries from managers and employees. Contribute to policy review and keep templates current with legislation. Support the Ops People Lead on wider people initiatives as capacity allows.
**Training & Capability Building:** Identify recurring people issues and work with the People team to improve processes, policies, and manager capability. Partner closely with the Ops People Lead on wider people initiatives and change across the business. Design and deliver ER-focused training for junior-to-mid level managers, covering topics such as handling difficult conversations, running fair investigations, and disciplinary/grievance basics.
This is a genuine opportunity to build deep credibility across a fast-growing operational business with real ownership from day one, exposure to a workforce of 100+ people across the UK, and a clear path to grow within HIVED's People function.
**Working Pattern:** 5 days onsite, primarily based at Rainham Depot (Essex) with regular travel across London sites. Hours: 3 pm – midnight.
**Requirements:**
- At least 4 years' proven experience independently handling disciplinary and grievance casework
- Comfortable operating in an operational/depot environment, not just HQ office settings
- Confident advising and influencing junior-to-mid level managers with limited HR background
- Solid working knowledge of UK employment law and ACAS Code of Practice
- Experience supporting a mixed workforce (office-based staff and shift/rotation-based operational staff)
- Highly organised, able to manage a live caseload independently
- Willing and able to work onsite 5 days/week
