Step, a fintech company backed by Beast Industries (MrBeast's company), is seeking a Head of Risk to lead their risk organization. The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and owns the strategy, execution, and scaling of risk operations across the company.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing Step's risk strategy that balances fraud mitigation with frictionless user experience
- Leading cross-functional partnerships with Data Science, Product, Engineering, and Compliance to embed risk-aware decisioning into product development
- Owning fraud loss outcomes and partnering with Finance to balance revenue growth against risk overhead
- Scaling the Risk organization to support hyper-growth, prioritizing automated and technical-first solutions
- Driving continuous improvement of risk prediction models to minimize false positives
- Building a customer-centric risk culture that prioritizes user trust and retention
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of high-impact risk leadership, preferably with expertise in risk analytics and/or data science. Required experience includes:
- Proven track record in fintech or banking, specifically managing high-risk consumer technology and payment platforms
- Demonstrated success neutralizing transactional fraud, first-party fraud, and account takeover (ATO) risk
- Expertise developing defense strategies against sophisticated attack vectors
- History of collaborating with Product teams to deliver secure experiences without compromising usability
- Experience building and mentoring multi-disciplinary teams across Risk Ops, Analytics, Disputes, and Investigations
- Strong cross-functional influence and consensus-building skills
