Fuse is building fusion energy technology to accelerate the world's transition to clean energy. As Head of Production, you will lead the company's transition from prototype development to scaled manufacturing of fusion generators. You'll own all production operations across the manufacturing floor, from component fabrication through final assembly and testing.
Your core responsibilities include building and scaling the production team by hiring manufacturing leads, technicians, and production engineers as volume grows. You'll design and implement production processes, work instructions, and quality systems that maintain speed and quality as output scales from one-off builds to repeatable high-volume runs. You'll partner directly with design and manufacturing engineering teams to resolve manufacturability issues and feed real production data back into design decisions.
You'll be responsible for production schedules, throughput targets, and identifying bottlenecks across the floor. You'll drive continuous improvement across safety, quality, cost, and cycle time, manage vendor and supplier relationships, develop CapEx planning and cost modeling with finance, and report on production performance, cost, risk, and capacity directly to leadership.
This role requires a hands-on approach—you'll be on the floor regularly and willing to get your hands dirty, not just managing from a dashboard. You'll operate with high autonomy in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment and be comfortable with extended hours and weekends when needed. Some business travel to other Fuse facilities may be required.
You must have a demonstrated track record building and scaling manufacturing or production operations at a hardware company, from low-volume (0–10 units) to higher-volume (1,000–100,000+) output. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and production planning is essential. Experience in high-voltage, pulsed power, aerospace, or complex hardware manufacturing is preferred, as is background scaling production at companies known for aggressive timelines (e.g., SpaceX, Tesla). Experience building quality systems from the ground up and familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies are also valued.
This is an in-office position requiring relocation to San Leandro, CA if not already local. ITAR compliance required: you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
