Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries including food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy autonomous systems at scale.
As Head of Hardware Manufacturing, you will own end-to-end retrofit and box build operations, including process design, technician management, tooling, throughput optimization, and release gates. You will stand up production at two new locations while maintaining existing operations, designing layout, material flow, and station configurations. You'll build the technician organization from hiring and training through certification, trainer capacity planning, and shift structure as the operation scales to extended and weekend coverage. You'll establish the leadership layer beneath you and implement an independent quality function that gates production with first-pass yield tracking, defect capture, and closed-loop feedback to engineering. You'll partner closely with Supply Chain to ensure complete kits reach the line and with hardware and NPI engineering during design transfers to production.
You bring 10+ years in manufacturing operations with proven experience taking hardware production from zero or near-zero to meaningful volume, where you personally designed the line rather than inherited it. You have worked in larger, mature manufacturing organizations and understand what good looks like at scale. You have multi-site experience standing up new locations while existing sites continue producing. You have deep capability in technician hiring, training, ramp programs, certification criteria, and trainer structures. You have a strong manufacturing engineering foundation including time studies, line balancing, takt and cycle analysis, station and tooling design, work instructions, and lean continuous improvement. You have led an independent quality gate under schedule pressure and have proven people leadership at scale, having hired and led managers, engineers, and technician leads. You are comfortable being hands-on on the floor and rigorous with data.
This is a full-time, in-office role based in San Francisco with five-day-per-week onsite expectation.
