Kraken, one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms with over 10 million users, is seeking a Head of Fraud, Payments & Banking to lead its global fraud prevention strategy and operations.
In this director-level role, you will own end-to-end fraud prevention across all Kraken products—spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services. You'll develop and execute the payments and banking fraud strategy, set OKRs in collaboration with Product, Engineering, Security, Compliance, and Legal, and establish a consistent global coverage lens across all jurisdictions where Kraken operates.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and leading a multi-tiered fraud organization (analysts, investigators, managers) with clear career progression frameworks
- Designing and implementing fraud policies, rule frameworks, and control processes across all products
- Monitoring payment trends and regulatory shifts to optimize approval/decline rates while maintaining fraud discipline
- Overseeing fraud detection systems and tools, managing escalation pathways for complex cases
- Ensuring analyst teams maintain SLA and QA standards across high-volume, real-time alert queues
- Serving as primary coordinator between Fraud Operations and Customer Support, Compliance, Legal, Product, and Security
- Delivering data-driven reporting on fraud and payment KPIs to executive leadership
- Staying ahead of emerging fraud trends and technologies across payments and banking
- Maintaining risk assessment, mitigation, governance, and audit controls
You bring 10+ years in banking, payment processing, or fraud risk management, with proven experience building and leading fraud teams. You have deep expertise in Card, Third-Party, and Peer-to-Peer payment fraud, plus relevant banking regulatory frameworks (FCA, PSR preferred). Strong understanding of blockchain technology and crypto fraud risks is preferred. You're data-driven, an exceptional communicator, skilled at influencing cross-functional stakeholders, and experienced scaling operational teams. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Finance, or related field is preferred.
