Charge Robotics is a Series A startup building robots that construct solar farms, addressing labor bottlenecks in the rapidly growing solar installation industry. The company has already shipped its first commercial system and is scaling operations to meet significant demand. You will lead a 15+ person cross-disciplinary engineering team through the critical transition from prototype development and first commercial deployments to repeatable, scalable production builds.
In this role, you report directly to the CEO and serve as the engineering leader responsible for team growth, mentorship, and execution excellence. You will collaborate with company leadership to align engineering strategy with overall business goals and product roadmap. You'll be hands-on where needed, diving into technical problems while maintaining organizational perspective. Key responsibilities include scaling engineering operations across R&D, manufacturing, and production; establishing and improving engineering management processes including performance reviews and organizational design; setting standards for development, testing, and documentation; and representing the engineering function to employees, customers, executives, and investors.
You'll shape the core technical team, expand the culture of engineering excellence, create effective processes, and help ship a transformative product with direct climate impact. The role requires balancing speed with quality, operating effectively in a fast-paced startup environment, and engaging with both internal teams and field deployments at solar construction sites.
Charge is MIT-founded and backed by top-tier investors including Founders Fund, Energy Impact Partners, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator (S21).
