The Strategic Finance team at OpenAI is responsible for shaping the company's financial strategy and capital allocation decisions. The Head of Data Science, Strategic Finance will lead the data science function within Strategic Finance, which has four core priorities: (1) accurately forecast key business and financial metrics; (2) ensure attainment of key targets; (3) support complex modeling and analyses for business decision-making; and (4) scale recurring work through automation and dashboarding. You will report to the VP of Strategic Finance and partner closely with the Strategic Finance team, Product, and GTM Data Science organizations. This is a managerial role where you will build and mentor a high-performing team while driving data-driven decision-making across the organization. Key responsibilities include: - Develop accurate forecasts for product usage, revenue, and compute consumption, enabling real-time tracking of key metrics and performance trajectory - Become an expert in OpenAI's data and systems through partnerships with Data Engineering, Finance, and other Data Science teams - Design and deliver dashboards for key metrics impacting financial performance - Lead metrics reviews with Strategic Finance and finance leadership to interpret trends and surface actionable insights - Drive automation of standardized reporting, analysis, and processes across revenue segments and compute spend - Build and mentor a high-performing team - Support critical business decisions with ad hoc analysis as needed The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is offered to new employees. REQUIREMENTS: - MS/PhD in a quantitative discipline (Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Engineering, or CS) - 12+ years of experience in a Data Science role at a dynamic, outcome-driven organization - Proficiency in SQL and Python - Extensive experience building production-ready models for time series applications - Experience building adjustable and explainable forecast models for multiple planning cycles - Experience conducting open-ended research projects on new forecasting methodologies - Exemplary ability to distill complex financial information into actionable insights for leadership - Excellent communication skills and storytelling ability when presenting data insights - Prior management experience - Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with flexibility and willingness to do whatever it takes to be successful
