Formlabs is seeking a Head of Cybernetics to lead the evolution of the firmware, electrical architecture, and integration systems that form the "nervous system" of its precision 3D printers. This role owns the orchestration of optics, mechanics, chemistry, and software that enables surgeons, engineers, and manufacturers worldwide to bring ideas to life. You will scale a world-class cybernetics engineering team globally, spanning embedded engineering, systems integration, and electrical engineering disciplines. Your responsibilities include shipping products loved by customers, driving embedded and electrical breakthroughs that enable printers to achieve what competitors think is impossible, and building a modular architecture (main boards, chipsets, peripherals) that scales across the entire ecosystem. You will move from prototype to production at speed, understanding the challenges of scaling from concept to 100,000 units in the field. This is a leadership role focused on reuniting historically siloed disciplines—high-level software, embedded software, digital hardware design, analog hardware design, and mechanical engineering—under a unified cybernetics vision. You will be customer-obsessed, diving deep into technical details across engineering and physics domains while maintaining focus on business outcomes. Formlabs offers robust equity (RSUs), comprehensive healthcare, 401(k) matching, generous parental leave (up to 16 weeks), tenure-based sabbatical (up to 6 weeks), flexible time off, on-site parking, pre-tax commuter benefits, on-site meals, and professional development opportunities. Requirements: - Shipped complex electromechanical products to production in high-performance environments; deep understanding of scaling from prototype to mass production - Built and led high-performance engineering teams - Strong technical depth across embedded systems, electrical engineering, and systems integration - Customer-obsessed mindset with business acumen - Impatient to ship great products quickly Bonus: - Passion and experience with 3D printing technology - Entrepreneurial background demonstrating ability to scale a business
