Graphcore is seeking a Hardware Validation & Debug Engineer to validate and debug high-speed interfaces critical to AI compute systems. In this role, you will own hands-on validation and debug work in the lab, focused on SerDes, PCIe Root Complex, and Ethernet interfaces. You will build deep knowledge of Graphcore's devices, boards, and system behavior, working to prove silicon and platforms function across real product conditions. You will investigate complex failures, tune high-speed links, and turn lab findings into clear engineering decisions. Your work will span silicon, hardware, firmware, and architecture domains, requiring you to debug signal integrity, protocol-level, and interface issues through to root cause. You will work closely with Architecture, Silicon Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and Firmware teams, driving bring-up activities and helping teams reach decisions based on empirical data. The role emphasizes ownership and independence—you will be trusted to take responsibility for issue resolution across teams, speak up when something is unclear or risky, and drive practical problem-solving. Progress comes through clear communication, fast iteration, and evidence-based decision-making. Graphcore is part of the SoftBank Group and is developing hardware, software, and systems infrastructure for next-generation AI compute. The company brings together AI research specialists, silicon designers, software engineers, and systems architects to solve complex problems in AI infrastructure. REQUIREMENTS: • Strong hands-on hardware validation experience, including board bring-up and subsystem debug • Experience validating and debugging Ethernet, PCIe Root Complex, and SerDes systems • Confident use of lab instrumentation: oscilloscopes, BERT systems, VNA/TDR equipment, and PCIe protocol analysers • Ability to debug signal integrity, protocol-level, and interface issues through to root cause • Experience with PCIe bring-up, LTSSM analysis, link training, equalization tuning, and interoperability testing • Ability to work independently, take responsibility, and drive issue resolution across teams Note: Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
