Base is a venture-backed energy storage company deploying distributed battery networks to modernize the electrical grid. The company is seeking a Global Supply Manager to build and own the raw and bulk materials sourcing function from the ground up.
You will own commercial sourcing for adhesives, thermal interface materials (TIM), potting compounds, chemicals, and paint across Base's core bill of materials, managing the full lifecycle from supplier selection through price negotiation and production support. You will also build Base's sourcing strategy for upstream battery raw materials including lithium, carbon/graphite, anode and cathode materials, and foundational structural materials such as electrical steel, aluminum, cold-rolled steel, and copper.
Key responsibilities include tracking commodity market dynamics (pricing, supply risk, geographic concentration) to inform make-vs-buy and hedging decisions, and partnering with Base's Metals and Cells category leads and Manufacturing Engineering to align raw materials strategy across the broader supply chain. This is a build-from-scratch mandate: you will define how Base sources and manages raw materials before supplier relationships become locked in reactively, working at a moment when raw materials needs are scaling quickly.
Base's supply chain team owns every material and component in its home battery systems. Currently, raw materials like TIM and potting are managed as secondary priorities within other categories, and lithium, graphite, steel, and aluminum sourcing strategy does not yet exist. This role will establish that function and directly shape how Base secures and manages materials going forward.
Base operates in-person with a startup pace: priorities shift quickly, and the role may expand based on business needs. The company emphasizes first-principles thinking, rapid execution, direct feedback, ownership, and commitment to the mission of rebuilding the grid.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Direct experience owning a raw or bulk materials category at an OEM or industrial manufacturer (lithium, graphite, steel, aluminum, or comparable commodity), including supplier negotiation and market strategy
- Ability to build a sourcing strategy and supplier base from scratch with no existing playbook or incumbent relationships
- Fluency in commodity market dynamics, including pricing mechanisms, hedging, and geographic supply concentration, and how they translate into commercial strategy
- Strong organizational skills to align raw materials strategy with adjacent categories and sourcing roadmaps still in development
