Blank Street is seeking a Global Head of Legal to serve as the company's first in-house legal hire and build the legal function from the ground up. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role reporting to the Sr. Director of Global Finance and partnering closely with all department heads and external counsel. You will own all legal matters across Blank Street's growing US and UK footprint, including corporate governance, cap table management, fundraising support, commercial contracts, employment law, real estate and store leases, litigation and disputes, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. As the primary legal partner to the executive team and all business functions (Finance, People, Real Estate, Supply Chain, Digital, Operations), you will provide pragmatic, risk-aware counsel that balances legal protection with business speed. Key responsibilities include: drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a high volume of commercial agreements (vendor, supplier, technology, marketing, partnership contracts); supporting real estate legal matters including store lease review, negotiation, and new market openings; leading employment law matters across jurisdictions in partnership with the People team; owning corporate governance and entity management across all jurisdictions; managing litigation, disputes, and regulatory inquiries end-to-end; advising on intellectual property, trademarks, and brand protection; partnering with Product and Digital on app, subscription, and e-commerce legal considerations (terms of service, privacy, data protection); supporting new market entry and expansion; developing contract templates, playbooks, and legal policies to scale efficiently; managing relationships with outside counsel and legal budgets; and proactively identifying legal and regulatory risks. Beyond day-to-day support, you will build the legal infrastructure needed to scale responsibly, including templated contracts, playbooks for store lease review and new-market entry, and sound judgment on when to handle matters in-house versus engaging specialized outside counsel. This role requires equal parts strategist and executor—someone who takes pride in being both a trusted advisor and a hands-on operator. Requirements: - JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission (US required) - 5+ years of legal experience, ideally combining law firm training with public or in-house experience in high-growth, fast-paced commercial environments - Broad generalist legal expertise across commercial contracts, corporate governance, employment law, and real estate, with judgment to escalate to specialized outside counsel - Experience supporting multi-jurisdiction operations (US multi-state and/or UK or EU) and new market entry - Builder's mindset—comfortable being the first legal hire, creating processes and templates from scratch, and flexing between high-level strategy and hands-on execution - Strong commercial instincts—able to balance legal risk with the speed and pragmatism a fast-growing business needs - Excellent communication skills to translate complex legal matters for non-legal stakeholders - Ability to work independently, manage high volume of competing priorities, and own outcomes end-to-end with minimal oversight - Team-first, discreet, and trustworthy approach to handling sensitive company, employee, and legal matters
