Salary: USD 50,000 - 70,000 / annual
CivilGrid is a venture-backed Series A startup building a civil design platform for utilities, engineers, and municipalities. The platform consolidates utility records, geotechnical and environmental data, and jurisdictional requirements from 3,000+ utilities and agencies, enabling teams to plan, design, and build infrastructure faster and safer.
As a GIS Analyst, you will be on the front lines of building and maintaining CivilGrid's core asset: verified utility data. You will work on hands-on digitization, spatial data research, and geodatabase maintenance to build datasets that empower engineers with centralized site data.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research spatial and non-spatial datasets to expand the utility data footprint
- Digitize non-spatial datasets to increase site data accuracy
- Utilize GIS products and spatial databases including ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, SQL, and internal applications
- Interpret maps and drawings for internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with Utility Research Coordinators and Digitization Project Managers
- Process data using ETL workflows and scripts
- Perform QA/QC on converted GIS data
This is a hybrid role based in Kansas City, MO, requiring 2 days per week in the office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS-adjacent field (GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or related)
- Proficiency in GIS software (ESRI or QGIS)
- Knowledge of geospatial data formats (Geodatabase, Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, CSV, REST Service)
- Basic SQL skills
- Experience with project management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated with ability to work independently
- Eagerness to learn
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with utilities and/or government agencies
- Python experience (ArcPy, Geopandas, Pandas)
- ArcGIS Server experience
