Volta is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform backed by a $10B strategic partnership with a leading frontier AI lab, Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz, and a $5B AI Infrastructure Fund. The company is scaling rapidly across five countries with 100+ employees and growth expectations to hundreds.
As General Accountant, you will be the core operational backbone of Volta's finance function during a critical growth phase. You will report to the VP Accounting and work closely with the SSC Reporting Manager in a small, senior, hands-on finance team. This role offers genuine breadth and responsibility, with direct exposure to multi-currency banking, equity accounting, and the build-out of finance infrastructure for a company on a path to US listing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing supplier invoices, employee expenses, and payment runs across group entities (UK, Germany, Norway, Spain), applying PO and approval policies
- Posting journals for accruals, prepayments, payroll, and intercompany transactions with full supporting documentation
- Preparing and maintaining balance sheet reconciliations (bank, AP, payroll, deposits) to monthly deadlines
- Supporting UK VAT returns and assisting with overseas VAT compliance across multiple jurisdictions
- Maintaining fixed asset and prepayments registers, including capitalization under group policy
- Contributing to month-end close checklists and entity reporting packs
- Supporting external audit requests with clean, well-referenced evidence
- Assisting with data and process migration from Xero to the new group ERP system

Requirements:
- Part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) actively studying, or equivalent accounting experience; study support provided
- 2+ years in an accounting role covering accounts payable, journal posting, and reconciliations
- Solid double-entry bookkeeping fundamentals and genuine attention to detail
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables; advanced skills a bonus)
- Experience with Xero or comparable ledger system; multi-currency exposure helpful
- Organized and reliable against fixed deadlines with clear written communication
- Curiosity and willingness to take on unfamiliar tasks in a fast-changing environment
