Peak Energy is advancing sodium-ion battery systems as the storage standard for renewable energy grids. The company recently announced America's first sodium-ion grid storage factory in Sacramento with production starting Q1 2027, backed by strategic investors including TDK Ventures, Eclipse Ventures, and GM Ventures, with over $1B in signed customer commitments. You will join a small software team as a Full-Stack Software Engineer reporting to the CTO within the ESS Engineering department. This is a hands-on role spanning application code, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps tooling. You'll design and build the data pipeline that processes raw telemetry from deployed batteries into production-critical metrics (round-trip efficiency, availability, cycle tracking). As Peak scales from pilot deployments to gigawatt-scale production, you'll wire the manufacturing environment into the pipeline and own the infrastructure and CI/CD practices that enable the software team to move fast and reliably. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, and maintain the post-processing pipeline calculating battery metrics from raw telemetry using Azure Functions, persisting to cloud database for dashboarding and analytics - Connect manufacturing database to physical devices and cloud pipeline as Sacramento factory scales production - Maintain and improve real-time data pipeline infrastructure from field sites to cloud, ensuring reliability and low latency across growing fleet - Design and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deployment across software stack - Define and manage cloud resources via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent), replacing manual provisioning with repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure - Partner with ESS Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to instrument features, surface data to teams, and improve observability - Own production issues end-to-end—diagnose, fix, and improve systems to prevent recurrence This role is ideal for someone who wants to build meaningful infrastructure at a company doing genuinely novel work in energy storage, with individual ownership and real impact on production systems customers and operators depend on. REQUIREMENTS: Minimum qualifications: - 4+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful full-stack, backend, or platform work in production - Strong Python skills (backend data processing, automation, scripting) - Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL, time-series queries, schema design and migrations) - Cloud platform experience (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP transferable) - Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent) - Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar) - Comfort taking ownership of production systems, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience Preferred qualifications: - Prior experience with battery systems, energy storage, EV, IoT, or industrial telemetry platforms - Experience with real-time streaming data infrastructure (Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, Kinesis, or similar) - Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms (Datadog, Grafana, Application Insights) - Docker and container orchestration experience - Prior experience at Series B/C hardware or industrial startup - Experience partnering with hardware, firmware, or embedded teams
