Lumen Energy is a commercial solar broker that partners with real estate owners to develop rooftop solar and storage projects. The company uses technology and data analysis to streamline the solar development process, creating transparent competition among developers and delivering white-glove service. Backed by leading climate VCs including Lowercarbon Capital, Moxxie Ventures, and Designer Fund, Lumen is among the fastest-growing companies in its category.
You will be Lumen's first dedicated Product Manager, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering. This is a founding role with significant autonomy and visibility. You will own the product roadmap for Lumen's commercial solar and storage marketplace, serving both building owners and solar+battery developers. You'll work cross-functionally with Engineering, Sales, Marketplace Operations, and Leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and evolving a prioritized product roadmap informed by user feedback, business priorities, and success metrics
- Shaping features from discovery through implementation-ready prototypes with sufficient clarity for engineers to build confidently
- Acting as connective tissue between Engineering, Sales, Ops, and Leadership; synthesizing competing inputs and driving aligned decisions
- Defining success metrics before features ship and measuring impact post-launch
- Running a continuous user research practice with building owners, solar developers, and internal stakeholders, translating insights into product decisions
The role requires someone who is outcome-oriented rather than output-oriented, comfortable with ambiguity and high agency, able to build conviction from incomplete information, and capable of making decisive calls. You should be opinionated but intellectually honest, collaborative and influential across functions, and a strong async communicator. You'll need strong visual and UX sensibility (the company lacks a dedicated designer), genuine enthusiasm for customer research, and motivation around the clean energy mission.
The company values clear thinking over hierarchy, uses AI tools extensively to accelerate development, and offers high ownership and broad scope—you'll shape not just product but also user research, product marketing, design, and UX practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- 5+ years of product management experience in a high-growth or startup environment, with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end product cycles from discovery through delivery and measurement
- Fluency with AI-assisted product development workflows, using LLMs to accelerate prototyping, research synthesis, and spec writing
- Strong visual and UX sensibility, particularly important given no dedicated designer on staff
- Strong written communication: ability to write clear, prose-based documents conveying business context and customer needs so engineers and AI can build without constant clarification
- High agency and influence: track record of owning and defending a product roadmap, including making hard prioritization calls under resource constraints
- Business acumen: ability to reason about trade-offs between user value, technical complexity, and commercial impact, and connect product decisions to business outcomes
- Strong user research skills: ability to design and run customer interviews, synthesize qualitative findings, and translate them into product decisions and priorities
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with two-sided marketplace dynamics
- Experience in commercial real estate, legal tech, or other complex transaction-based businesses
- Prior experience in client-facing roles such as customer success or sales
- Track record as the first or only PM at a company—experience building a PM practice from scratch
Cover letter required explaining how skills and past experiences translate to this role.
