Harness is an AI Software Delivery Platform company valued at $5.5B and backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, and IVP. The company has raised approximately $570M and is led by Jyoti Bansal, founder of AppDynamics (acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness powers over 185M deployments annually and helps enterprise customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels accelerate releases by up to 75% and reduce cloud costs by up to 60%.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work embedded inside enterprise engineering teams to design and build AI-native automation on the Harness platform. This is a hands-on, code-first role where you write production code and scripts, build production pipelines, and connect Harness AI Agents into customers' existing systems. You will stay engaged until capabilities are live in production, working directly alongside customer engineers to turn business objectives into working software rather than documentation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Embed inside customer engineering organizations for the duration of build engagements to design and build agent-driven automation across the software delivery lifecycle
- Write production code connecting Harness AI Agents to customer pipelines, repositories, ITSM tooling, security systems, and infrastructure
- Partner with customer engineering stakeholders and the Harness delivery team to translate approved plans into working software
- Prototype quickly, ship incrementally, and iterate directly with customer engineers
- Capture reusable patterns and share them with the broader Harness delivery organization
- Bring direct feedback to Harness product and engineering teams based on real customer environments
- Support transition from custom build to steady-state operation so customers can independently operate and extend what you built
Success is measured by: a working, production agent integration live in the customer's environment; a reusable pattern captured in the Solutions Factory; customer engineering stakeholders able to operate and extend the integration independently; and healthy, ongoing customer adoption of the Harness platform beyond the specific build.
The role is remote-based with frequent travel to customer sites (up to 50%). You will work across multiple customer environments and collaborate with internal stakeholders while maintaining day-to-day engagement with customer engineering teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Platform engineering or software engineering background with hands-on coding, scripting, and integration ability (not configuration-only experience)
- Comfortable working directly in customer codebases, infrastructure workflows, and CI/CD frameworks
- Experience building integrations against APIs, event-driven systems, or LLM and agent orchestration frameworks
- Prior experience in forward-deployed, solutions engineering, architecture, or embedded consulting roles where success was measured by working software, not documentation
- Strong grounding in CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code, plus depth in at least one adjacent domain (security, observability, or cost management)
- Ability to operate with ambiguity: work from business objectives and agent capability boundaries to working integrations without pre-written specifications
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills for day-to-day work with customer engineers while keeping internal stakeholders aligned
- Willingness to travel to customer sites for the duration of active builds
