depthfirst is building AI-powered intelligence to detect and remediate critical software vulnerabilities, training and scaling security AI agents to discover zero-day vulnerabilities across customer codebases and open-source software. The founding team includes deep expertise from DeepMind, Databricks, Square, and Faire.
As a Forward-Deployed Engineer, you will be the primary technical liaison between depthfirst and enterprise customers, owning the full lifecycle of customer deployments from initial architecture and planning through production readiness and operational handoff. You'll work directly with customer security, infrastructure, and cloud teams to understand their unique environments, navigate technical constraints, and ensure successful deployment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing deployment architectures tailored to each customer's infrastructure, security, and operational requirements
- Troubleshooting complex systems across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, identity and access management, and application configuration
- Writing production code and building integrations to unblock customer deployments and deliver new capabilities
- Creating tooling and automation for onboarding, deployment validation, upgrades, and ongoing operations
- Identifying recurring customer needs and partnering with internal engineering teams to build reusable platform improvements
- Communicating technical tradeoffs, dependencies, and progress clearly to keep customer and internal teams aligned
- Traveling to customer sites as needed to support successful deployments
You'll be at the intersection of AI, security, and infrastructure, turning field learnings into product improvements that make depthfirst easier to deploy and operate across diverse enterprise environments.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience building and operating production systems in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or similar role
- Strong hands-on knowledge of cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes, including deploying, debugging, and operating applications in production
- Solid understanding of networking and cloud security fundamentals (private connectivity, DNS, TLS, IAM, access controls)
- Ability to investigate problems across infrastructure and application boundaries, identify root causes, and implement fixes
- Proficiency in Go or Python with experience shipping production code and automation
- Experience with infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and observability
- Strong communication skills and interest in working directly with customers; ability to understand unfamiliar environments and coordinate across teams
- Ownership and sound judgment when requirements are ambiguous or deployments don't fit existing playbooks
- Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco
BONUS:
- Experience owning technical engagements with large enterprise customers as an FDE, SRE, platform engineer, or solutions engineer
- Deep experience with AWS, EKS, Helm, Terraform, or Pulumi
- Experience with multiple cloud providers
- Experience deploying enterprise software into environments with strict networking, access, and security requirements
- Experience supporting varied customer architectures and integrating software with existing infrastructure and operational tooling
- Experience with AI platforms or security products
