Flexport is seeking a Forward Deployed Consultant to embed directly with Fortune 500 enterprise clients and architect transformative supply chain solutions. You will work alongside Forward Deployed Engineers as a technical subject matter expert at the intersection of operations research, data science, supply chain strategy, and executive delivery.
Key responsibilities include: embedding at client headquarters and logistics hubs to audit complex supply chain networks and identify multi-million-dollar cost optimization opportunities; designing and prototyping mathematical optimization models using Python and SQL focused on mode mix planning, container payload balancing, dynamic safety stock, and supplier consolidation; serving as the technical solution design lead to translate models into production workflows within Flexport's Control Tower and Workflows platform; partnering with commercial teams to develop high-impact client proposals and present ROI projections to C-suite stakeholders; validating models in live operational environments at ports and cross-docks; managing end-to-end 90-day deployment sprints with aggressive timelines; measuring hard-dollar cost reductions and environmental impact; and identifying root causes of logistics losses to build reusable playbooks that become permanent platform features.
You will write Python scripts, design supply chain algorithms, whiteboard architectures with executive leaders, and deploy automated workflows optimizing cargo movement across ocean, air, and land networks. The role bridges strategy and frontline execution, requiring deep collaboration with operations teams and core engineering to ensure lasting adoption and measurable results.
Required qualifications: BA/BS or higher in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Supply Chain, or related technical field; 4+ years of professional experience in supply chain management, consulting, logistics engineering, freight forwarding, or product management; proficiency in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools (Looker, Tableau); demonstrated systems-thinking ability to build decision-support systems and handle imperfect enterprise data; and proven technical program management experience overseeing complex project workstreams.
