August Bioservices, a high-growth Contract Development Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, is seeking a Financial Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations. The company provides drug discovery, formulation, and manufacturing services to pharma and biotech companies and is undergoing a significant two-phase expansion including a new state-of-the-art facility.
In this role, you will manage all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions. You will lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate monthly financial statements and management reports for board, lender, and investor stakeholders. You will oversee cash flow management, working capital optimization, and treasury controls while managing banking relationships.
You will support the development of accounting activities for key workstreams including payroll, manufacturing and cost accounting, customer deposit and pass-through activities. You will ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls, coordinate internal and external audits, and support regulatory and compliance reporting including tax, statutory filings, and grant reporting.
A critical responsibility is managing and developing the finance team—assigning responsibilities, setting goals, and providing coaching. You will collaborate with manufacturing, R&D, operations, and commercial teams to drive appropriate accounting processes, cost containment, pricing strategy, and profitability optimization. You will lead ERP/financial systems initiatives, owning the chart of accounts, cost centers, financial data integrity, and automation opportunities. You will develop scalable accounting policies and procedures, document processes, and maintain robust internal controls. Additionally, you will support financial planning and analysis activities including forecasting, variance analysis, and pricing decisions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred
- 10+ years of progressive accounting/controller experience
- Biotech or life sciences and manufacturing experience (including pass-through activities)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls; experience with SOX/compliance frameworks
- Proven experience with ERP system implementation and maintenance (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and financial consolidation
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with BI tools and financial planning software
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities; ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset and problem-solving skills
- Experience in early-stage or growth-stage companies; familiarity with ERP implementations
- Knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition and cost accounting methodologies
