Serval is an AI-native automation platform that builds intelligent agents to transform enterprise operations. Founded in early 2024, the company is backed by Sequoia Capital, Redpoint Ventures, and other leading investors, and is trusted by companies like Fox, Notion, Perplexity, Vercel, and Brex. You will be the technical backbone of Serval's Finance team, acting as an accounting automation engineer. The role combines two primary responsibilities: **Finance Transformation (primary focus):** Own the finance systems roadmap and build automations and agents on Serval's platform to create a single, trusted view of revenue, go-to-market, and cost data. Map manual workflows across Finance, rank automation opportunities by time saved and risk reduced, and maintain a prioritized backlog and roadmap. Design and deploy Serval-first agents for reconciliations, journal entry preparation, accruals, close task tracking, variance analysis, and reporting. Own project plans, milestones, and risks, reporting status to the VP Controller and Head of Finance. Evaluate and pilot new finance tools when appropriate, building business cases for adoption. **Data Foundations:** Connect Rillet, Salesforce, Ramp, billing/usage data, payroll, and marketing systems into one trusted finance data layer. Build data models behind sales, marketing, and cost reporting so bookings, pipeline, spend, and unit economics come from a single source of truth. Replace manual spreadsheets with automated dashboards for leadership decision-making. Act as Finance's primary partner to Engineering and RevOps on integrations and internal tooling. **Corporate Accounting (part-time):** Own close tasks hands-on, including account reconciliations and complex calculations, then automate them. Manage day-to-day operations such as Ramp bills, corporate cards, vendor setup, and spend approvals. Optimize Rillet as the ERP system. Design human-in-the-loop controls, audit trails, and documentation to ensure automated outputs are accurate and audit-ready. Write runbooks and train the Finance team on new tools. You will report to Francisco Meyo, VP Controller, and work closely with the Head of Finance, RevOps, Engineering, Sales, Marketing leadership, and the revenue accounting team. **Requirements:** - 6 to 10 years combined experience across accounting/finance operations and finance systems, including leading at least one implementation or transformation from planning through testing, training, and go-live - Hands-on AI build experience: have built and deployed AI agents, LLM workflows, or automations that run in production - Strong accounting fluency: working knowledge of the close, reconciliations, accruals, and revenue accounting - Data skills: SQL and comfort building data models and dashboards from messy source systems (ERP, CRM, spend tools) - Scripting capability: Python or similar for automation and integration work - Integration experience: APIs, workflow/integration tools, and ability to work directly with engineers on technical requirements - Strong communication skills: ability to explain system designs and data gaps to non-technical executives **Nice to have:** - Experience with Rillet, Ramp, Salesforce, or modern data stack (warehouse, dbt, BI tools) - Exposure to Serval as a customer, user, or builder - Background at a high-growth software or AI company - Familiarity with internal controls, SOX, or supporting external audits
