Salary: USD 90,000 - 110,000 / annual
Element Biosciences is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to support its growing customer base in the Southwest, based in Los Angeles. This role is critical to the company's mission of developing high-performance genomics products that enable researchers to better understand biology.
You will provide onsite installation, qualification, upgrades, repairs, and preventative maintenance on next-generation sequencers. Key responsibilities include identifying and resolving product issues in the field, troubleshooting complex laboratory equipment involving chemistry, software, and hardware, and maintaining professional customer interactions. You'll manage spare parts handling, ordering, usage, returns, and physical inventory, while utilizing service CRM software to document work accurately and timely.
The ideal candidate has an Associate or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in engineering, physics, biology, chemistry, or a related field. Preferred qualifications include experience with NGS sequencing instruments, troubleshooting complex laboratory equipment, experience servicing scientific instrumentation involving optics, fluid handling, and thermal systems, and proficiency with data collection tools (MATLAB, Python, C++, Java). Experience with fluorescence microscopy and multiple full lifecycle product launches is helpful.
You must demonstrate strong time management, problem-solving, organizational, and relationship-building skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication abilities including technical writing. The role requires flexibility for non-regular business hours customer support and domestic travel up to 80%. You'll frequently move boxes weighing up to 20 pounds.
