Salary: USD 90,000 - 105,000 / annual
OpenTrons Labworks is seeking a Field Service Engineer I to deliver exceptional technical support for its liquid-handling robotics platform used across research and healthcare institutions. This is a hybrid field-based role with a primary territory covering the US East Coast, requiring 60-75%+ travel to customer sites across the United States and Canada, with potential international coverage.
You will be responsible for the long-term maintenance, repair, and performance optimization of Opentrons robotic instruments at customer locations. Key responsibilities include traveling to customer sites to perform installations, preventive maintenance, calibration, and repairs; conducting on-site evaluations to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues; documenting all service activities in applicable systems; performing basic to intermediate remote troubleshooting when possible; and independently scheduling and managing service activities while maintaining high quality and professionalism.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, with 2-4 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role within life sciences or laboratory automation. Prior experience with liquid-handling automation or Opentrons robots is strongly preferred. You should have solid understanding of debugging and interpreting code used in automated liquid handling (Python knowledge preferred), strong mechanical and hardware troubleshooting skills, and demonstrated customer-obsessed mindset with solutions-oriented approach. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in Google Suite or equivalent are essential. Experience with GitHub/version control tools and Salesforce or similar CRM tools is preferred.
You must be able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple field assignments, live near an international airport to support travel requirements, and be comfortable with some physical effort including lifting and installing robotic instruments. This is a fast-paced environment with high volume of service requests and dynamic scheduling.
