As Field Operations Specialist, you will bridge technical execution and operational leadership. You'll manage hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and robotic platforms while supervising junior field technicians during deployments. Your responsibilities span both technical and supervisory domains:
Technical responsibilities include building, wiring, and testing UAS/robotic platforms and payloads; maintaining lab equipment and spare parts inventory; conducting quality inspections; and verifying flight-readiness before deployment. You'll perform hands-on troubleshooting at multi-domain field exercises and lead setup/teardown operations.
Operational and leadership responsibilities include overseeing junior field staff coordination, managing deployment logistics (travel, shipping, equipment readiness), serving as primary customer contact for field logistics and administrative coordination, and drafting event-specific documentation including assembly procedures, deployment logs, and after-action reports. You'll coordinate with engineering and mission teams to ensure operational readiness and capture lessons learned in real time.
The role requires 2+ years of hands-on technical experience in assembly, lab, or field environments, plus FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification with RPIC and EP experience. You must be a U.S. Citizen able to obtain security clearance. The position is hybrid based in Austin with up to 50% travel, including evenings/weekends during mission-critical events. Physical demands include lifting 60 lbs and working in dynamic outdoor field conditions.
Preferred qualifications include IPC soldering/electronics certification, experience leading small technical teams, familiarity with lab management software, comfort with scripting tools (Python, CLI, spreadsheets), and experience with project management tools (Jira, Confluence, Notion). Success requires strong leadership and communication skills, quality control mindset, customer-facing professionalism, independent problem-solving, and ability to balance hands-on technical work with operational planning.
