Mistral is hiring a Field Hardware Engineer to manage and scale one of France's largest GPU/CPU clusters. You'll work hands-on across compute, storage, interconnect, and cooling infrastructure, executing complex vendor-level interventions and guiding junior L1 engineers on-site without direct line management.
Key responsibilities include leading complex hardware interventions (full rack work, recabling, post-restart diagnosis), performing advanced diagnostics across compute/storage/interconnect/cooling systems by reading BMC/IPMI consoles and logs, and coaching L1 engineers on safe practices (ESD/LOTO) and rack craftsmanship. You'll improve standard operating procedures and build small automation tools in Python/Bash to reduce mean time to recovery, enforce safety and compliance standards, and manage parts/logistics strategy including failure trend analysis and vendor coordination.
You bring 5+ years of data center or server hardware experience at L2/L3 support level, with proven hands-on work in production HPC/AI/Cloud environments. You have end-to-end hardware expertise spanning CPU/memory/PCIe accelerators, NICs, PSUs, drives, networking, power, and cooling systems. You're confident analyzing BMC/IPMI logs, Linux software logs, and performing methodical root cause analysis. You maintain impeccable ESD/LOTO/PPE discipline, produce clean and auditable work, and communicate crisply during handovers and live operations.
Nice-to-have skills include vendor tools (iDRAC/iLO/IPMI), RAID/storage basics (NVMe/SAS/SATA), high-speed interconnect knowledge (Ethernet/InfiniBand), Python/Bash automation for ops tools, and experience with ticketing systems (Jira/ServiceNow) and RMA flows. You're willing to travel between sites in the Paris area and occasionally across Europe or the US. The role is based in Bruyères-le-Châtel with multi-site mobility across the Paris region.
