Salary: USD 132,000 - 143,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Facilities Engineer II to join its Facilities team at its Silicon Valley headquarters. You will design, build, activate, and maintain next-generation spacecraft manufacturing facilities. This role requires operating with autonomy to solve complex problems, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities include leading internal technical facilities and infrastructure projects from engineering through commissioning and maintenance; providing technical support to ensure construction and maintenance comply with all standards and codes; verifying and coordinating repair, build, and contingency efforts for HVAC (including cleanroom/HEPA infrastructure), security systems, fire protection, and manufacturing infrastructure; resolving production facility design and construction conflicts in real time with internal and external parties; supporting the capital expenditure process with reviews, approvals, and execution of site projects; acquiring building permits and ensuring certificates and final inspections are obtained; communicating building and maintenance activities to personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers; ensuring reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations; and responding to facility emergencies and owning facility readiness procedures.
This position is onsite in San Jose, CA, requiring five days per week in the office. The role involves corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance techniques as well as operational and design feedback for maintaining and improving all systems at the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of professional experience with design or build of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and HVAC building systems
- Experience in planning and day-to-day management of engineering, procurement, and construction processes for aerospace, industrial, or large commercial construction projects
- Primary experience with electrical and power distribution systems including delta/wye transformers, building lighting, building construction specifications, and facility grounding
- Experience with critical power infrastructure including UPS systems, backup generators, and automatic transfer switches
- Experience with plumbing design and operation including domestic and process water systems
- Knowledge of HVAC operation and design principles including refrigeration, chillers, boilers, HEPA filtration, and air handling equipment
- Ability to quickly assess issues and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair
- Acute attention to detail and ability to see system interactions to avoid problems
Nice-to-have: AutoCAD or Revit experience; conceptual design and budgeting experience; familiarity with National Electric Code, ASHRAE, National Fire Protection Association, and International Building Code; experience with aerospace manufacturing equipment (clean rooms, vibration tables, thermal vacuum chambers); experience with test and process automation equipment (data acquisition systems, PLCs).
