Tomorrow.io is seeking an experienced operational meteorologist to join its Customer Team, which enables weather-sensitive industries—including technology, construction, aviation, energy, autonomous vehicles, and drones—to operate faster than the speed of weather.
In this role, you will combine strong forecasting judgment with clear communication and practical use of Tomorrow.io's technology and AI tools to help customers make better decisions in weather-sensitive environments. You will support customers across industries and climate zones, especially during rapidly changing conditions where forecast accuracy has real operational consequences.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor evolving weather conditions and produce timely forecasts and risk assessments using observations, numerical weather prediction, satellite products, radar, and synoptic analysis
- Interpret model differences and forecast uncertainty, with particular attention to high-impact weather and customer decision-making needs
- Deliver weather impacts through written reports, briefings, and direct consultation, tailored to each customer's operations
- Use Tomorrow.io's platform and AI tools to accelerate analysis, prepare first drafts, and improve timeliness and consistency of customer updates
- Validate AI-generated and automated output against meteorological evidence; correct errors and apply expert judgment before delivering consequential guidance
- Review forecast performance and significant misses, sharing findings with meteorology, Science, Product, and Engineering teams to improve models and tools
- Identify recurring forecast and communication tasks suitable for automation or standardization; help design, test, document, and adopt improved workflows
- Help customers integrate Tomorrow.io's products into daily operations by translating weather insights into practical workflows
- Contribute to forecasting guidance, handoffs, and shared practices that support consistent quality across the team
You will remain accountable for the quality of meteorological guidance delivered and will work to improve how the team operates by identifying repetitive tasks, testing new tools, and turning effective practices into scalable workflows.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an operational meteorologist
- Strong forecasting judgment and experience integrating observations, NWP guidance, satellite products, and radar with traditional meteorological analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain technical weather information to nontechnical audiences
- Hands-on experience using AI tools to improve professional workflows, with ability to evaluate their output critically
- Demonstrated ability to adopt new technology, improve processes, and share effective practices with colleagues
- Experience assessing forecast uncertainty and reviewing forecast performance to improve future guidance
- Ability to manage multiple forecast responsibilities, prioritize effectively, and maintain accuracy under pressure
- Knowledge of weather patterns across the continental United States and ability to forecast across varied global climate zones
- Strong radar interpretation skills, including dual-polarization products
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays
Valued additional experience:
- Forecasting for outdoor or sporting events, transportation, aviation, or logistics
- Writing TAFs or other operational aviation weather products
- Creating templates, automations, or repeatable tools that improve forecasting or customer communication
- Working with product, science, or engineering teams on model verification or forecasting tools
