The company is seeking a Staff Engineer to serve as a principal technical reference with cross-team impact.
In this role, you will define architectural directions, influence strategic technical decisions, and elevate the engineering organization's overall technical level. You'll be instrumental in building scalable, resilient systems prepared for business growth while developing people and advancing engineering practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining and leading high-impact architectural decisions considering scale, performance, resilience, and sustainability
- Working cross-functionally across teams to ensure technical consistency
- Investigating complex technical problems, identifying root causes, and driving structured resolutions
- Proposing and driving technical improvements that increase quality, reliability, efficiency, and system sustainability
- Contributing to critical incident response, diagnosis, mitigation, and post-incident learning
- Influencing technology strategy with leadership
- Mentoring senior engineers and establishing best practices
- Defining and evolving engineering standards (architecture, quality, observability, security)
- Working with SLIs/SLOs/SLAs to ensure system health
- Promoting data-driven culture and continuous improvement
- Fostering innovation and experimentation
- Disseminating best practices, including strategic AI usage
- Building solutions for complex technical problems as the team's primary reference
- Balancing technical strategy with execution
- Ensuring quality and sustainability without centralizing, creating more autonomous engineers
- Mentoring and elevating collective technical level
- Connecting architectural choices to product objectives and company OKRs
- Acting as a connector between teams and business units to avoid silos
Requirements:
- Solid experience with backend development
- Strong experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems
- Experience with messaging and event-driven systems
- Experience with APIs (REST, GraphQL, RPC)
- Experience with high-scale production systems
- Knowledge of testing and software quality practices
- Knowledge of observability and system monitoring
- Knowledge of API security
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar)
- Knowledge of CI/CD
- Ability to influence technical and business decisions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Proficiency in defining what goes to AI versus what requires human judgment
- Ability to specify objectives and context before prompting
- Skill in designing contracts and interfaces before generating code with AI
- Critical evaluation of AI outputs for quality and adherence
