Aalo Atomics is pioneering factory-fabricated microreactors to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. The Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) Director leads all environmental protection, industrial safety, emergency management, and radiological-control functions across Aalo's operations.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Nuclear Operations, you will establish and lead field-centered ES&H organizations supporting both the Idaho Falls Operations facility and the Austin Manufacturing Center. Your responsibilities include:
• Lead and develop ES&H personnel and programs supporting construction, testing, and operations of the Aalo-1 microreactor and related projects
• Assess staffing and program needs to ensure environmental controls and safe work execution in compliance with Federal and State requirements at Austin manufacturing facilities
• Establish clear ES&H requirements, roles, interfaces, performance standards, and field-implementation expectations across the organization
• Identify, analyze, and control hazards through integrated work planning, permits, procedures, pre-job briefs, field observations, and stop-work authority
• Maintain environmental permits, monitoring, reporting, waste-management interfaces, and regulatory commitments for Idaho Falls operations
• Oversee radiation-protection programs, radiological work controls, surveys, dosimetry, ALARA planning, and instrumentation to support safe authorized work
• Maintain emergency plans, procedures, drills, communications, and response readiness, including coordination with facility response organizations
• Provide timely review and practical resolution of construction, commissioning, testing, and operating issues without compromising required controls
• Track leading and lagging performance indicators and conduct field assessments to identify weak signals before events occur
• Communicate significant risks, noncompliance, and unresolved disagreements directly to senior leadership and facility authorities
• Enter ES&H deficiencies into corrective action programs, establish ownership and due dates, and verify effective closure
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring field presence, independent challenge capability, and a commitment to building a strong safety culture. You will report directly to the SVP, Nuclear Operations and provide critical oversight of compliance with OSHA, DOE, and local/state requirements.
