Mistral is building a sovereign AI cloud for Europe, providing full-stack AI solutions from frontier models to developer tools and compute infrastructure. The Cloud Platform team builds the systems enabling customers in finance, healthcare, and the public sector to run frontier models on European-jurisdiction infrastructure. This is a people-leadership role managing a team building Mistral's Kubernetes product—a metal-to-on-demand platform running on in-house infrastructure with GPU support for training, inference, and general-purpose compute. You will split your time roughly 50/50 between hands-on technical work and team leadership. Key responsibilities: - Design and ship the Kubernetes control plane, owning architecture and implementation decisions around scheduling, operators, provisioning, and node lifecycle - Manage the team: hiring, coaching, performance management, growth paths, and honest feedback - Own reliability of the Kubernetes control plane as the team's headline KPI, making critical decisions during incidents - Reduce provisioning time from weeks to minutes through automation - Partner with Product Managers on priorities, scope, and technical/business tradeoffs - Define team processes and execution rituals as the organization scales - Lead from the front on the hardest technical problems, not as a management step removed from the work The role shapes how Mistral's infrastructure scales from today toward a gigawatt of compute across Europe by 2030, and how frontier AI research becomes production systems. Requirements: - 2+ years of real people leadership: hiring, coaching, feedback, and growing engineers - Shipped production systems in Go (not dabbled—shipped) - Run Kubernetes in anger; ideally built parts of it (operators, schedulers, controllers); understand Linux directly, not just managed services - Experience with GPU workloads on Kubernetes, or confidence to own that domain quickly - Think like a developer building infrastructure, not an operator managing it - Extensive experience building backend or infrastructure systems - Partnered with product, design, and business teams to ship software reaching real users - Low-ego, team-first mindset; technical force other engineers want to work alongside
