Mistral is building a sovereign AI cloud for Europe, providing full-stack AI solutions from frontier models to developer tools and compute infrastructure. The Cloud Platform team builds the systems that enable customers in finance, healthcare, and the public sector to run frontier models on European-jurisdiction infrastructure, scaling toward a gigawatt of compute across Europe by 2030.
You will lead the Fleet Delivery team, responsible for turning arriving hardware into accepted clusters that serve customer workloads. The role sits at the intersection of hardware and software, automating the entire datacenter onboarding pipeline: cabling validation, burn-in, firmware, deployment validation, and software stack installation. Your primary KPI is time-to-acceptance—the hours between physical rack installation and serving customer workloads. Across the industry this is measured in weeks; you will drive it toward days, then hours.
This is a founding leadership role that is deliberately hands-on early on. Most of your time will be in code and architecture, with some time on datacenter floors, because the automation must survive contact with the machines it runs on. However, the job is building and leading a team from day one: hiring your first engineers, coaching them, setting growth paths, and running rituals that keep quality high. As the team grows, the balance shifts toward people leadership at a pace you help determine. You will shape the new team's charter and set the standard for how every future Mistral datacenter comes online.
Key responsibilities include: building the delivery pipeline in Go (provisioning, configuration, validation, burn-in, network bring-up, software stack install); building the team from scratch with first hires, onboarding, coaching, and owning performance and growth paths; owning time-to-acceptance metrics and driving continuous improvement; working closely with Hardware Design and Fleet Health teams; handling GPU fleets at scale (H100 and GB200-class nodes, InfiniBand and RoCE fabrics); and partnering with Product Managers and the datacenter organization to plan delivery waves against capacity commitments.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years building backend or infrastructure systems
- At least 2 years of real people leadership: hiring, coaching, and growing engineers (not just setting technical direction)
- Demonstrated experience automating bare-metal fleets—you have written the software that turns racks into clusters
- Hardware fluency: servers, GPUs, NICs, switches, firmware; able to read parts lists and topology diagrams
- Deep Linux expertise, comfortable well below the application layer
- Shipped production systems in Go (not dabbled, shipped)
- Willing to travel to datacenter sites when work demands it
- Low-ego, team-first mindset; technical force that other engineers want to work alongside
