ICEYE is seeking an Engineering Satellite Build Lead to own the end-to-end build, integration, testing and delivery of developmental satellites. You will manage the build team, plan the AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Test) timeline, and maintain build documentation, configuration tracking and lessons learned. This role sits within the Testing Team and focuses on prototype satellite work where requirements evolve and novel problem-solving is expected.
You will be responsible for:
- End-to-end build, integration, testing and delivery of R&D satellite systems across Qualification Model (QM) and Flight Model (FM) units
- Planning all AIT activities and timelines for R&D builds
- Managing the build team and actively participating in build execution
- Owning build documentation, including build records, configuration tracking (parts traceability) and high-level build procedures
- Documenting lessons learned and providing structured feedback to designers to improve build efficiency and testability
- Planning and owning QM system build and system qualification activities
- Owning system-level integration and testing of FM satellites, verifying functional performance and maintaining traceability
- Defining system-level test blocks and flows with technical owners, planning and coordinating functional tests, SLC, Mock Ops and other required system-level test activities
- Ensuring test execution readiness and progress (though test case definition is owned by Test Engineering)
Scope boundaries: You do not own unit-level testing or qualification, documentation updates from future design changes, or system functional requirements definition.
The role starts hands-on, initially sharing responsibilities with the Testing Team Lead while building context on systems and processes. As you grow, you will take on AIT planning, build execution and team management more independently, with potential evolution toward direct team leadership while remaining hands-on with technical problem-solving.
ICEYE delivers space-based ISR capabilities using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology. The company is headquartered in Finland with over 1000 employees globally.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must haves:
- Broad, hands-on technical depth across mechanical, electronics, RF and software domains, with deep expertise in at least one area and ability to engage effectively in others
- Proven track record planning and executing hardware build, integration and test (AIT) campaigns for complex electromechanical or electronic systems, ideally satellites or high-reliability aerospace/defence hardware
- Strong understanding of configuration management and parts traceability, with comfort owning build documentation and build records end-to-end
- Experience managing a build or AIT team, including day-to-day task planning and hands-on participation in build execution
- Ability to plan and hold realistic AIT schedules across build, qualification (QM) and flight (FM) units, coordinating with test engineering and systems engineering
- Systematic, first-principles approach to build and integration problems, comfortable working across mechanical, electrical and software interfaces
- Clear written and verbal communication, able to turn build lessons learned into structured, actionable feedback for designers
- Strong interpersonal connections and collaborative spirit, bringing steady presence to fast-paced or high-pressure environments
- Ability to excel at building positive workplace relationships and navigating high-stress situations with composure
Nice to haves:
- Experience with SIGINT, SAR or other RF/payload satellite systems
- Prior people management experience or clear readiness to grow into a team lead role
- Familiarity with system-level test activities such as functional tests, SLC (System Level Checks) or Mock Ops
