Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for enterprise customers including Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The Identity & Verification Services team is responsible for the systems that verify businesses joining Adyen's platform before they can accept payments, including KYC processes, legal entity data management across jurisdictions, and merchant verification frameworks.
In this role, you will lead and coach a team of 7 engineers, owning both team execution and roadmap in partnership with Product leadership. You'll act as a technical partner to your engineers, engaging in system design and architecture discussions while validating key technical decisions—this is a technical management role, not hands-on coding. Your responsibilities include shaping platform scalability through migrating existing checks, introducing versioning, simplifying new check development, and expanding the platform beyond KYC use cases.
You'll work cross-functionally with leaders across the Unified Platform organization and product teams who depend on verification services, aligning on priorities and technical direction. You'll create an environment where engineers feel safe taking ownership of their work with clear goals and priorities, and you'll hire and develop engineers who thrive in fast-moving environments.
In your first month, you'll focus on learning the platform, domain, and people while building relationships with your team and partner teams. By months three to six, you'll own team execution and roadmap, earn the team's trust, and shape the platform's next scaling phase.
You are an experienced engineering manager who leads by empowering people, bringing clarity and giving engineers room to own their work. You have a strong backend engineering background and understand distributed systems well enough to review designs, challenge trade-offs, and spot risks. You've worked with systems built for meaningful scale in established organizations beyond the early-startup stage. You're comfortable taking ownership quickly in established teams while building trust, collaborate well with Product and peer engineering leaders, and can align stakeholders around technical decisions. You communicate clearly about complex technical topics to both engineering and non-technical audiences.

- Experience with distributed systems running in production at scale, in any modern backend language
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Java
- Exposure to KYC, identity verification, onboarding, or compliance-driven systems
- Experience building B2B platforms
