Lila Sciences is seeking a Research Operations Engineer I to join their high-throughput laboratory automation team on a second shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM). This is an on-site role in Cambridge, MA.
You will operate integrated laboratory automation platforms (Hamilton, Lynx, Echo, or similar liquid handlers) to execute complex scientific workflows. Your day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and organizing reagents, samples, and labware; monitoring real-time workflow execution; performing first-line troubleshooting and equipment recovery; conducting routine maintenance and equipment checks; reviewing quality-control data; and maintaining accurate documentation for data integrity and sample traceability.
You'll collaborate closely with scientists, automation engineers, and operational teams to communicate workflow status, escalate issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen efficiency, robustness, and scalability.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of co-op and industry laboratory experience. You should have hands-on expertise in core laboratory techniques (pipetting, reagent preparation, aseptic technique) within molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, or protein science. Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment are essential.
Bonus qualifications include experience operating automated liquid handlers, working in production-oriented lab environments, interpreting QC data, familiarity with LIMS or sample-tracking systems, laboratory automation troubleshooting, protein purification techniques, or cell culture and DNA/RNA workflows.
