Fluidstack is building civilization-scale compute infrastructure for AI at unprecedented speed and scale. The company acquires power, designs and builds data centers, and operates them across multiple gigawatt-scale sites. The Energy Marshal role is a critical leadership position within the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team, responsible for managing hazardous energy control and electrical safety across multiple concurrent data center construction and commissioning projects.
You will own electrical safety end-to-end from first temporary power through construction, Level 1 to Level 5 commissioning, and handoff to operations. Key responsibilities include:
- Write, review, and approve every switching plan, LOTO procedure, energization sequence, and zero-energy verification before medium-voltage or low-voltage equipment is landed, tested, or turned on.
- Run pre-energization and energization kick-off meetings, holding sole authority to authorize, pause, or stop any energization, isolation, or restoration across general contractors, electrical contractors, commissioning agents, and utilities.
- Audit the electrical safety program in the field: job hazard analyses, energized work permits, boundary controls, PPE, arc flash labeling, and the gap between written controls and actual field practice.
- Create and manage the Kirk key program: collect, log, and control every Kirk key as switchgear, transformers, and generators are delivered to site, and turn the full key inventory over to operations at handoff.
- Maintain the tamper seal program on all energized and isolated equipment, acting as the sole authority to authorize breaking a tamper seal.
- Manage contract site-level Energy Marshals at every active campus: select and onboard them, set the standard they work to, audit their switching plans and field practice, and remove anyone who does not meet it.
- Build the multi-site Energy Marshal standard, including templates, energization tracker, and training, so a new campus stands up its energization program in days rather than months.
The role requires managing a distributed team of Energy Marshals across multiple sites while maintaining a single safety standard. You will work with general contractors, electrical subcontractors, commissioning agents, utilities, and owner operations teams on live campuses where construction and energized systems coexist. This is a high-autonomy role with insane urgency and the expectation to own scope end-to-end without permission.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum five years performing as an Energy Marshal or Controlling Energy Marshal on data center or mission-critical construction, with experience running energizations end-to-end on more than one site at a time.
- Current NFPA 70E qualified-person training and a recognized electrical safety credential (NFPA CESCP or CESW), plus OSHA 30 Construction and current First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Demonstrated experience personally writing and approving switching orders and LOTO procedures on MV (above 1000V) and LV distribution: utility service, MV switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, PDUs, and busway.
- Proven ability to stop an energization when paperwork was signed but field conditions did not match, with ability to walk through the decision and how work was restarted safely.
- Experience directing other Energy Marshals or electrical safety leads across more than one site, holding them to a single standard, and replacing those who fell short.
- Experience coordinating general contractors, electrical subcontractors, commissioning agents, utilities, and owner operations teams on live campuses.
- Experience running a Kirk key interlock or tamper seal program on live gear with full accountability from delivery through turnover.
- Ability to maintain energization logs, permit records, and isolation registers current enough for auditor or incident investigation reconstruction.
- Ability to explain arc flash boundaries, incident energy, and approach distances clearly to both apprentices and executives.
- Bonus qualifications: Electrician licensure (journeyman or master), Utility safety leadership (CUSP), Commissioning credentials (CxA, QCxP), Arc flash and coordination study review (SKM, ETAP), Behind-the-meter generation and multi-state utility interconnection experience.
