Salary: USD 160,000 - 210,000 / annual
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military with dedicated, secure networks. The company has five satellites on orbit with a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts, and operates from a 153,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Northern California.
As Electrical Engineering Team Lead, you will directly manage and grow a team of junior and senior electrical engineers responsible for the compute, networking, and power distribution systems within Astranis spacecraft. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define spacecraft requirements and architectures, oversee the design and implementation of in-house hardware systems, and manage detailed schedules to ensure hardware development aligns with overall program timelines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Directly manage and develop a team of electrical engineers
- Collaborate across disciplines to define compute, networking, and power distribution requirements and architectures
- Oversee design, build, and implementation of in-house hardware and systems
- Drive hardware design, specification, component selection, circuit board design, implementation, verification, board bring-up, and debugging
- Manage technical relationships with third-party component suppliers
- Support recruiting, interviewing, and hiring to expand the team
- Partner with production and mission operations teams on hardware build and in-flight use
- Push the boundary of what is possible in geo-synchronous spacecraft design

REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar technical degree
- 5+ years of professional experience with fast-paced product design cycles
- 5+ years of board-level experience designing electronics hardware from concept through production
- Demonstrated ability to design, build, and test hardware hands-on from scratch
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage teams of engineers and communicate clearly with other disciplines
- Strong analog/mixed-signal circuit design skills
- US Citizenship or Green Card (required to comply with US Government space technology export regulations)
- Passion for hardware development and fostering teamwork in fast-paced environments
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing signal conditioning, sensors, electro-mechanical actuators, power switches, embedded computers, or similar hardware
- Experience with FPGAs, microcontrollers, and communication schemes (RS-485, SPI, Ethernet, I2C)
- Strong understanding of C, C++, or Python
- Radiation effects knowledge
- Environmental test experience
