Northwood Space is a modern space infrastructure company building a global network of phased array ground stations for satellite communications supporting national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. The company designs, builds, and rapidly deploys scalable systems with a vertically integrated approach.
As Fleet Operations & Reliability Engineer, you will be the extreme owner of uptime and performance for Northwood's deployed hardware worldwide. This role spans technical expertise, field operations, and systems building, requiring you to work across multiple engineering disciplines and drive consensus across teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning fleet uptime and performance by deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting a growing network of antennas globally. You'll write analyses to investigate performance trends and uptime data.
- Operating and growing the Network Operations Center, monitoring site health, interpreting telemetry, sending commands and configurations, and driving rapid detection and response for any site or hardware issue.
- Leading hardware deployment campaigns at remote sites worldwide, acting as the on-site conductor and point of contact from pre-deployment through first contact and checkout.
- Investigating failures, driving root cause analysis, and implementing fixes to reduce recurrence. You'll develop deep expertise in at least one major subsystem (RF, power, networking, or mechanical).
- Scaling the global contractor ecosystem by sourcing, contracting, and onboarding regional partners across domestic and international sites, including maintenance agreements, SLAs, and ongoing coordination.
- Partnering with product, manufacturing, and test teams to influence designs with focus on reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle performance.
You'll be based at the Los Angeles headquarters with frequent travel to remote sites worldwide. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline, plus experience building, testing, operating, or diagnosing complex electrical or mechanical systems.
Preferred qualifications include ability to work across engineering disciplines, experience operating hardware systems in live environments, prior field operations or contractor management experience, strong project management skills, hands-on field proficiency with tools and diagnostics, coding comfort (Python, SQL), CAD proficiency, and willingness to travel internationally.
This position requires successfully obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret Security Clearance as a condition of employment. You must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident due to ITAR regulations. The role requires willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
