Charge Robotics is a Series A startup building robots that construct solar farms, directly addressing labor bottlenecks in the renewable energy sector. The company is MIT-founded and backed by top-tier climate tech investors including Lux Capital and Y Combinator (S21).
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will design and implement the electrical systems powering the company's robotic factory platform. You'll have direct impact on deploying gigawatts of clean power generation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, testing, and validating electrical systems including power distribution, control circuits, and signal conditioning for the robotic factory
- Selecting and integrating motors, sensors, actuators, PLCs, and other electrical/electronic components to meet system requirements for reliability and performance
- Creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness designs while establishing standards for electrical documentation and best practices
- Troubleshooting electrical issues in factory and field deployments, working closely with mechanical and software teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Scaling electrical systems from design through manufacturing and deployment
The role requires strong hands-on experience in electrical engineering, power systems, control systems, and industrial automation. You must be proficient in reading and creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams, with CAD skills for electrical design. Experience specifying and integrating electrical components (motors, drives, sensors, relays, PLCs) and knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards are essential. You should have worked in a fast-paced startup environment and be excited about working with industrial robotics. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The role is based in San Leandro, CA, with an expectation of 4-5 days per week on-site at headquarters.
Desirable qualifications include experience with high-power electrical systems, motion control, or industrial robotics; a 4-year degree in electrical engineering or related field; and familiarity with Python or other programming languages for testing and automation.
