Saronic Technologies, a leader in autonomous surface vessels for maritime defense, is seeking an EHS Specialist to support fast-growing operations across Mission Services including Vessel Testing, Depot Repairs, Field Services, Fulfillment, and Distribution. This role will primarily support operations on the U.S. East Coast (Virginia) and the EMEA region, with a focus on the United Kingdom.
The EHS Specialist will partner with multiple operational teams responsible for testing and servicing autonomous surface vessels across geographically diverse and highly regulated environments. You will support the development, implementation, and management of critical EHS programs and training to ensure compliance with U.S. and U.K. regulatory frameworks, while promoting a culture of learning and operational excellence.
Environmental Responsibilities: Support environmental compliance programs including air permits and emissions compliance, hazardous and industrial waste management, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans and inspections, and hazardous materials/Dangerous Goods management. Coordinate with local site teams and external consultants to ensure compliance with relevant environmental authorities. Assist with environmental reporting, inspections, and recordkeeping across regions.
Health and Safety Responsibilities: Support development and management of EHS programs including maritime safety, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, ergonomics, powered industrial trucks, hazard communication, cranes and rigging, electrical and battery safety, and lockout/tagout (LOTO). Conduct safety meetings, presentations, trainings, committees, and GEMBA walk-throughs across multiple time zones and locations. Support creation and standardization of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) across global operations. Lead hazard control implementation and EHS event investigations. Respond to employee health or safety emergencies. Evaluate work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. Submit, track, and manage EHS continuous improvement initiatives. Deliver EHS training to employees at all levels, including region-specific regulatory training. Support EHS team initiatives such as regulatory reporting, inspections, audits, emergency drills, and management system improvements. Monitor and communicate updates on EHS regulations, standards, and industry best practices. Develop and track individual and team objectives aligned with global EHS goals.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, public health, or related field; 5+ years of experience in EHS, preferably in maritime, aerospace, defense, or general manufacturing or industrial environments. Professional certification (e.g., ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.
Preferred Skills: Experience supporting multi-region EHS programs, particularly in U.S. East Coast, Virginia, U.K., and EMEA. Working knowledge of maritime safety and environmental, health, and safety regulations in the Americas and EMEA. Experience in maritime or vessel operations. Proven track record of implementing EHS programs across geographically distributed teams. Strong analytical skills with ability to develop data-driven safety solutions. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across cross-cultural and remote teams. Experience delivering training to diverse audiences, including international teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems. Ability to work independently while coordinating across time zones and multiple sites.
