Anthropic is seeking a Discovery Technical Operations Specialist to join its Litigation and Regulatory team. This role is critical as Anthropic navigates complex legal and regulatory challenges at the frontier of AI policy and copyright matters across multiple jurisdictions.
You will build and operate discovery operations from the ground up, managing the full electronically stored information (ESI) lifecycle including preservation, collection, processing, hosting, review, and production—including novel AI-specific data types. Key responsibilities include:
• Operating discovery across the full EDRM (Electronic Discovery Reference Model) lifecycle, with hands-on management of RelativityOne and related platforms
• Designing and executing the legal hold program, including custodian identification, hold issuance tracking, re-notification, and defensible release workflows
• Supporting and improving Anthropic's discovery technology stack, including RelativityOne configuration, access controls, templates, and in-place preservation/collection tooling for Slack, Google Workspace, and internal systems
• Partnering with discovery leads, in-house counsel, outside counsel, vendors, and internal technical teams to coordinate matter execution and escalations
• Collaborating with Security, IT, and product engineering to instrument new data sources for hold and collection, ensuring each ESI source has a governed retention and disposition path
• Developing and executing Anthropic's information governance program, including retention schedules, data classification, defensible disposition workflows, and data inventory maintenance
• Integrating AI and automation into discovery workflows, including generative-AI-assisted review, advanced analytics, custom Relativity applications, and agentic workflow automation
• Supporting active litigation, government investigations, and regulatory inquiries as the operational lead, managing vendor execution and surfacing operational risks and cost trade-offs
• Designing and building internal tools to streamline discovery workflows and developing dashboards for data management trends and cross-matter discovery status
You will be equal parts technical operator and operational project manager, working in a fast-scaling environment at one of the most closely watched companies in AI.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
• Hands-on discovery experience across the full EDRM lifecycle, with demonstrated ownership of operations on complex matters in an in-house legal department, government agency, law firm, or vendor
• Track record of supporting complex discovery operations functions
• Working knowledge of major discovery platforms (RelativityOne), including administration, search and analytics, AI/TAR workflows, custom application development, and AI workflows
• Strong understanding of Federal Rules on discovery and evidence, ESI preservation obligations, and proportionality, with operational fluency to translate obligations into workflows
• Experience operating discovery across modern enterprise data sources (Slack, Google Workspace, mobile, engineering systems) and understanding of how to bring novel data sources under preservation and collection
• Strong project management instincts and track record of running multiple concurrent matters and programs under tight deadlines with composure and precision
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical discovery and operational concepts clearly to attorneys, executives, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
• Field of study relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Preferred qualifications:
• 6+ years of hands-on discovery experience across the full EDRM lifecycle
• Experience standing up discovery operations at a young and/or fast-scaling company, particularly with new kinds of ESI
• Experience embedding with engineering or product teams to define discovery and information governance requirements
• Hands-on integration of generative AI and agentic workflows (e.g., Claude, Claude Code) into operational discovery work
• Technical fluency working with engineering teams, modern infrastructure APIs, cloud (AWS, GCP), data pipelines, version control, and comfort writing/reading/maintaining small scripts
• Experience operating information governance programs at scale including retention scheduling, data classification, defensible disposition, and data mapping
• Experience applying AI and automation to discovery operations, including generative AI for review and agentic automation
• Collaborative, hands-on orientation with integrity and genuine curiosity about building operational programs in fast-moving environments
