Muon Space is a rapidly scaling end-to-end space systems company designing, building, and operating mission-optimized satellite constellations. Following a $146M Series B and the acquisition of propulsion startup Starlight Engines, the company is expanding production capacity at its new San Jose facility, which can support up to 500 satellites annually in the 100-500kg+ class.
The Director of Supply Chain is a newly created strategic leadership role responsible for transforming Muon's supply chain as it transitions from one-off missions to high-mix, high-volume constellation manufacturing. This director will lead the end-to-end supply chain organization across Purchasing, Planning, and Inventory Management, establishing operating models, cross-functional processes, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
**Strategic Leadership & Organization Building**: Hold overall responsibility for the Supply Chain organization's mission. Define operating models and interfaces with engineering, manufacturing, and other teams. Build out the organization with dedicated functional leads as complexity grows. Ensure teams have the tools, capabilities, and capacity to meet business objectives.
**Process & Performance Management**: Coordinate and improve cross-functional supply chain processes. Establish accountability within each function. Define and monitor KPIs across supply chain and individual functions. Collaborate on processes that balance supply chain and manufacturing needs with engineering velocity.
**Risk Management & Resilience**: Manage near-term and long-term supply chain risks including obsolescence, sole-source dependencies, and geopolitical impacts. Proactively assess and mitigate risks. Architect and implement formal supplier assessment, inventory management, and in-sourcing/out-sourcing decisions.
**Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Development**: Own strategic sourcing and supplier development. Build a high-performing supplier base delivering continuous improvement in cost, quality, delivery, and innovation. Lead strategic supplier negotiations. Champion platform commonality to maximize part and supplier reuse across missions.
**Design & Production Integration**: Synchronize with the design team to incorporate changes into procurement plans. Ensure Planning sits at the center of Engineering Design Release, Material Procurement, and Production Execution. Partner with Mission Management, Engineering, Finance, and Production to align material readiness with program schedules.
The role is hybrid, requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose.
