Skydio is seeking a Director of Product Compliance to lead compliance strategy across its autonomous drone portfolio serving defense, public safety, and enterprise markets. This is a leadership role with significant decision authority, including launch readiness sign-off and cross-functional accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own product compliance across Skydio's entire portfolio, setting policy, establishing risk frameworks, and creating requirements inventories and certification gates.
- Lead and develop a team of portfolio compliance engineers embedded in program teams, balancing capacity against an 18-month roadmap and ensuring tailored compliance plans.
- Translate ambiguous or evolving regulatory requirements into clear compliance strategies while maintaining program momentum.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to establish realistic launch timelines that account for certification lead times and external constraints; escalate launch-critical risks early.
- Direct subject matter expert engagement across cellular, radio, civil aviation, cybersecurity, supply chain, and export control domains. Shape policy and regulatory strategy proactively.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years in product compliance, certification, or regulatory engineering with team leadership experience.
- Deep technical expertise in EMC, radio, and product safety; working knowledge of cellular/carrier certification, battery, aviation, cybersecurity, supply chain, and export controls.
- Proven track record building governance and process adoption in organizations lacking formal compliance infrastructure.
- Comfort holding decision rights and communicating launch risks to program leadership.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with engineering, legal, supply chain, and executive stakeholders.
- Willingness to work beyond role scope to address ownership gaps.
Desirable Experience:
- Battery, cellular (PTCRB/MNO), or NRTL compliance background.
- Familiarity with UAS regulatory frameworks (FAA, Remote ID, EASA).
- Federal supply chain, export control, or cybersecurity requirements experience.
- Regulatory advocacy or standards body engagement.
- FAA Part 107 certification (encouraged within 60 days; required for certain positions).
