Preply is a unicorn edtech platform (Series D, $150M) that connects 100,000+ tutors teaching 90+ languages to learners across 180 countries. You'll lead Preply's IT function as it scales from a lean, capable team into a strategic, AI-native operations engine.
You'll own the full IT strategy and roadmap, treating IT as a business enabler rather than a cost center. This is a dual role: architect and hands-on operator. You'll set vision and tooling standards across the organization while staying close enough to script, automate, and configure systems yourself. You'll report to senior technology leadership and work directly with C-level stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
**Strategy & Business Enablement**: Own a multi-quarter IT roadmap tied to Preply's growth goals. Set tooling strategy and standards—decide what to adopt, consolidate, or retire. Operate fluidly between strategic direction-setting and sharp technical decisions. Anticipate IT needs 12–18 months ahead for a fast-scaling company.
**AI-Native Operations**: Bring an automate-first mindset to provisioning, access, support deflection, and asset reconciliation. Build and ship automations yourself, modeling best practices for your team and the wider organization. Surface AI tooling that genuinely improves employee experience.
**Team Leadership**: Lead and mature a lean IT team into a senior, process-driven function. Raise the technical bar, coaching toward AI-fluent ways of working. Stay hands-on in scripting, automation, MDM, and identity configuration. Build operating rhythms (SLAs, runbooks, prioritization) that scale impact without proportional headcount growth.
**Global Infrastructure & Workplace Tech**: Own international fleet and device lifecycle across multiple countries—procurement, enrollment, retirement. Run identity, access, and endpoint management to high reliability standards for a distributed workforce. Manage the Barcelona hub's on-site technology: office network, meeting-room AV, video conferencing. Own IT services for company off-sites and events globally. Enforce IT's own security and compliance hygiene as a core principle.
**Procurement & FinOps**: Own visibility into IT, SaaS, and software spend. Partner with Finance and Procurement on contracts, renewals, and vendor rationalization. Drive cost and compliance efficiency—eliminate shadow IT, consolidate overlapping tools, negotiate from data.
**Data & Stakeholder Management**: Build dashboards and reporting that give leadership clear, current views of IT health, spend, and initiative status. Provide proactive follow-ups so leadership never chases. Manage and influence C-level stakeholders directly, translating technical reality into business decisions. Make decisions from data, not anecdotes.
You'll need 10+ years leading IT teams or functions in fast-scaling tech/SaaS companies. You're a true architect-operator: you set strategy and stay hands-on with scripting, automation, MDM, and identity systems. Deep experience with international fleet and device management (Jamf, Okta, or equivalents), SaaS spend management, FinOps, and proven ability to manage C-level stakeholders. You're AI-first and automate-first, with a clear, opinionated view on tooling. You treat IT security and compliance hygiene as non-negotiable and are fluent in English. Experience in remote-first or globally distributed companies is a plus.
