Sysdig is seeking a Director of Infrastructure to lead cloud infrastructure strategy and operations for a global, multi-tenant platform serving Fortune 500 customers. In this role, you will own end-to-end cloud infrastructure strategy across AWS, GCP, Azure, IBM, and OCI, including architecture, resourcing, maintenance, capacity planning, and vendor strategy. You will drive continuous cost-optimization initiatives—rightsizing, reserved/committed spend, tagging discipline, and waste elimination—while maintaining reliability and performance for large-scale platforms.
You will serve as a key technical advisor to the executive team, translating infrastructure investments and tradeoffs into business language and presenting roadmaps that influence CTO/CFO-level budget and planning decisions. You will make and defend critical strategic decisions around build-vs-buy, multi-cloud vs single-cloud, and centralize-vs-federate approaches, owning the reasoning even under incomplete information.
You will build, mentor, and lead a high-performing infrastructure/platform/SRE team, conducting performance reviews and coaching to balance career ambition with organizational goals. You will manage complex cross-team dependencies with Security, Data, and Product Engineering, mitigating timeline shifts and bandwidth constraints. You will own infrastructure risk end-to-end—security posture, disaster recovery, compliance (GDPR and EU regulatory considerations), and incident management for high-availability systems. You will stay hands-on by reviewing infrastructure-as-code and architecture, jumping in to unblock milestones when necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of infrastructure/platform engineering experience, with 4+ years directly leading infrastructure strategy and budget in distributed systems environments
- Proven track record leading cross-functional initiatives spanning multiple departments, with demonstrated ability to unblock bottlenecks and drive execution in matrixed organizations
- Measurable cost-optimization results backed by real numbers (e.g., reduced cloud spend by 30% while scaling traffic 2x)
- Demonstrated ability to present to and influence C-level executives; fluency in both engineering and business language; ability to navigate sensitive tradeoffs with data-backed clarity
- Deep hands-on experience with at least one major public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/Pulumi or similar) and networking fundamentals
- Experience with containerized environments using Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies
- Solid understanding of designing scalable, high-performance, event-driven infrastructure and reusable cloud components
- Experience building high-availability, fault-tolerant platforms
- Experience managing distributed/European teams and navigating EU-specific considerations (data residency, GDPR, labor-law awareness a plus)
- People management experience with a bias toward coaching and growing managers and engineers
- Experience or strong interest in cloud-native cybersecurity, specifically Cloud Native Application Protection Platforms (CNAPP) or FinOps is a plus
