Pebl is seeking a Director of Data to lead data strategy, infrastructure, and AI integration across the organization. This is a hands-on leadership role that bridges R&D and core business functions (Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, Legal) to ensure Pebl's global employment and compliance data is secure, accessible, and actionable.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Architect the Future: Own the vision and execution of Pebl's modern data infrastructure. Serve as the technical authority on data engineering, ensuring scalable, performant, and reliable data pipelines. Champion strict data security, privacy, and governance protocols for global payroll, HR, and compliance data.
2. Drive Actionable Business Insights: Transform complex datasets into clear strategies across all departments. Partner with Marketing and Sales to optimize growth funnel, CAC, and conversion rates. Collaborate with Operations, Finance, and Legal to improve billing accuracy, payroll speed, and compliance tracking.
3. Champion "AI Everywhere": Lead Pebl's transformation into an AI-native company. Bring AI capabilities to R&D offerings, including the compliance assistant Alfie. Embed AI into daily workflows across Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal to drive internal efficiency.
4. Bridge the Gap: Act as translator between deep technical R&D work and business objectives. Master data storytelling to present complex insights to executives and the board.
5. Build and Foster the Team: Lead a hands-on, execution-oriented team. Recruit top-tier talent in data engineering, analytics, and AI. Foster a culture of continuous learning and psychological safety.
The role requires in-office collaboration at the Toronto office Monday through Wednesday, with primary work from the Palo Alto office.
Requirements:
- 15+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or analytics, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Deep, hands-on expertise with modern data infrastructure: Snowflake, Fivetran, Atlan, Looker, and Monte Carlo
- Proven experience deploying LLMs, machine learning models, and AI tools for both production products and internal operational workflows
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal to tie data initiatives to top-line growth and bottom-line efficiency
- Exceptional communication skills; track record of weaving data into compelling business narratives for non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work from Palo Alto office Monday through Wednesday
