Rocket Lab is seeking a Director of IT Infrastructure to lead global IT operations from either their Long Beach, CA or Auckland, NZ facilities. Reporting to the CIO, you will develop and execute IT infrastructure strategies, processes, and procedures that deliver reliable, scalable, and secure technology solutions across the company's expanding operations.
Key responsibilities include building and leading a high-performing team of IT engineers distributed globally, with a focus on enabling Rocket Lab's engineering teams to design and manufacture world-class rockets and satellites. You will serve as a technical leader in compute, storage, networking, operating systems, and DevOps technologies required to support a dynamic engineering and manufacturing environment.
You will define IT infrastructure priorities in collaboration with Space Systems and Launch Operations leadership, ensuring aggressive business timelines are met. You'll develop industry-leading processes for managing global infrastructure services across multiple Rocket Lab facilities, balancing on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure while maintaining high availability and uptime. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with security standards, managing vendor relationships and procurement negotiations, developing a 24/7 global support model, and traveling up to 30% domestically and internationally.
Required qualifications include 12+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience covering operations, data centers, virtualization, O365, networks, support, and security. You must have IT leadership experience in globally diverse organizations, preferably in high-tech, engineering, or manufacturing sectors, and hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. US citizenship is required due to program requirements.
Desirable experience includes high-availability cloud/AWS/Azure and on-premises environments, technical expertise in Windows, Linux, VMWare, networking, SAN, and related infrastructure components, M&A integration experience, and background in rapid-growth environments.
