Dispatch is a clinical-stage biotech company developing novel cancer immunotherapies based on pioneering work from leading academic institutions. The Director of IT & Business Enablement is a high-impact leadership role responsible for building and scaling the company's entire IT and digital infrastructure function.
This is a hands-on, strategic role that combines builder and strategist mindsets. You will own IT and business enablement end-to-end, orchestrating an MSP (managed service provider) and specialist partners rather than managing a large internal team. You'll partner daily with scientific, clinical, regulatory, quality, and finance leaders to translate their needs into appropriate technology solutions and will be accountable for how the company operates when examined by partners and sponsors.
Key responsibilities span four domains:
**Applications Strategy & Business Process Enablement**: Own a company-wide applications roadmap balancing near-term needs with scalable, cost-effective architecture. Lead evaluation, selection, and deployment of enterprise applications with thoughtful change management. Establish lightweight technology intake and governance processes to ensure deliberate tool adoption rather than siloed implementations.
**Data Governance & Security**: Own the organization's information security posture, maintaining a resilient, audit-ready security program. Establish core security foundations including identity and access management (SSO, MFA, joiner/mover/leaver lifecycle), endpoint protection, and backup/disaster recovery. Design and govern data architecture, storage, access controls, and lifecycle management appropriate for a clinical-stage biotech under GxP requirements. Own data integrity and computer system validation (CSV) for GxP-relevant systems, including 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, ALCOA+ principles, and audit-trail review. Ensure data from lab instrumentation and scientific systems (LIMS, ELN) are captured, secured, and governed consistently. Partner with research leads on computational needs and capacity planning. Develop IT policies reflecting regulatory requirements and operational realities. Serve as technical owner for partner and sponsor due diligence, completing security questionnaires, supporting external audits, and maintaining documentation.
**IT Operations**: Serve as primary internal contact for the IT MSP, ensuring service quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. Manage relationships with IT vendors and third-party providers through regular business reviews. Develop and manage short- and long-term IT budgets across MSP services, SaaS applications, cloud infrastructure, and security tools. Ensure consistent IT service delivery across Philadelphia and San Francisco offices.
**AI Strategy & Adoption**: Set AI architecture, data-handling guardrails, and acceptable-use policies enabling functional teams to own their AI adoption within established guardrails.
Travel to the San Francisco office up to 25% of the time. This role is ideal for someone with biotech/pharma IT experience, regulatory compliance knowledge, and the ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on.
