Together AI is seeking its first Director of Data Center Strategy and Site Selection to own the physical infrastructure backbone of their AI cloud platform. This role combines technical expertise in data center operations with commercial negotiation and strategic planning to scale Together's global footprint.
You will develop and execute Together's global data center strategy, determining where the company invests in and leases data center capacity and which partners to work with. You'll balance cost, risk, and speed across regions to support product roadmap and customer demand. Key responsibilities include site selection and vendor relationship management—evaluating new locations, negotiating large colocation and power contracts, and managing vendor performance on cost, delivery, and SLAs.
You'll drive the technical site diligence process in partnership with cross-functional teams (engineers, consultants, finance, product, GTM), assessing power architecture, cooling systems (including liquid cooling), redundancy schemes, grid capacity, and expansion potential. This is not a project management role; you're expected to engage technically and make informed recommendations. You'll also negotiate data center leases and other commercial agreements, interface with executive leadership, support sovereign and large-scale customer deals with custom infrastructure scoping, and define and source site connectivity from network providers.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years in data center strategy, site selection, or infrastructure planning at a hyperscaler, AI infrastructure company, or large colocation provider. You need strong technical grasp of data center fundamentals (power architecture, cooling, redundancy, rack density), experience leading complex multi-party negotiations and structuring colo/power contracts, knowledge of data center and real estate contractual frameworks, financial fluency in TCO modeling and cost drivers, and ability to translate technical trade-offs into business decisions for non-technical stakeholders. Nice-to-have skills include familiarity with power markets and energy procurement, hyperscale or sovereign AI project experience, and knowledge of ISPs and network service providers.
